1. Trim the Stems at an Angle
Always start by trimming your flower stems at a 45-degree angle. This helps them absorb more water and prevents the ends from resting flat at the bottom of the vase, which can block hydration.
Pro tip: Re-trim your stems every 2–3 days for best results.
2. Use Clean Vases & Fresh Water Daily
In our climate, bacteria grow quickly in standing water. To avoid that, make sure you:
- Wash your vase thoroughly before use
- Fill it with clean, room-temperature water
- Change the water every 1–2 days to prevent bacterial buildup
3. Add Flower Food (or Make Your Own)
That little flower food sachet you receive? Use it! It contains the nutrients and pH balancers that flowers need to thrive.
No flower food? No worries — make a DIY mix:
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp white vinegar or lemon juice
- A few drops of bleach
- Mix into 1 litre of water
This helps nourish your flowers, fight bacteria, and extend vase life.
4. Keep Flowers Cool and Out of Direct Sunlight
Heat and humidity accelerate wilting. In Singapore’s tropical weather, place your flowers:
- Away from direct sunlight
- Far from heat sources (like kitchen appliances or electronics)
- In a cool, shaded, well-ventilated space

5. Remove Wilting Flowers Promptly
